Who we are
Me Steady is a free financial support service for people in the United Kingdom, helping you find money you are owed, understand confusing letters, and find fast-start work. This policy also covers the employer job board, a separate paid service for businesses posting immediate-start roles.
Me Steady is the data controller for the personal data described below. If you have questions, contact us at hello@mesteady.co.uk.
What we collect, and what we do not
If you create an account: your email address and a password (stored as a one-way cryptographic hash, we cannot see or recover your actual password).
When you use the benefits checker or job search: the details you enter (postcode, household situation, income, and similar) are used to calculate your results or query for jobs in real time. If you are signed in, the results (not the raw answers you typed in) are saved against your account so you can see them again later in My Profile - you can delete them at any time by deleting your account. If you are not signed in, results are only available during your current session.
Your uploaded documents are never stored.
When you upload a bank statement, debt letter, or benefit decision letter, the file is processed to extract its content, analysed, and then permanently deleted, normally within seconds. We do not keep a copy in any database, file storage, or backup. If you are signed in, the analysis result itself (never the file) is saved against your account so you can refer back to it in My Profile.
If you post a job listing (employers): your company name, contact email, company website, job details, and payment information are collected to create and process the listing. Card details are handled entirely by Stripe, our payment processor. We never see or store your full card number.
If you contact us: whatever you send us in your message, so we can reply to you.
Cookies and similar technology
We use one essential cookie (or equivalent local storage on the app) to keep you signed in. It is required for the service to work and cannot be turned off while staying signed in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not use third-party analytics that track you across other sites.
How we use your information
•
To provide the service you asked for: matching you to benefits, analysing a document, generating a draft letter, or searching for jobs
•
To maintain your account and let you sign back in
•
To process and review employer job listings, including payment and refunds
•
To reply if you contact us
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes, and we do not use your data for advertising.
Third parties we use
•
Anthropic (Claude): processes document text and your questions to generate analysis, explanations, and draft letters. Content is sent for that single request only, and is not used by Anthropic to train their models under their API terms.
•
Adzuna: supplies job listings based on your postcode and search terms. Adzuna does not receive your name or email.
•
Stripe: processes employer payments for job listings. Stripe handles all card data directly, we never receive or store full card numbers.
Anthropic is a US company. Where your data is processed outside the UK, we rely on standard contractual safeguards required under UK GDPR.
Data retention
•
Account data (email, hashed password): kept until you delete your account
•
Benefits check results, job search results, document analysis results: not retained, they exist only for the duration of your session
•
Uploaded documents: not retained, deleted immediately after processing
•
Employer job listing data: kept while the listing is active, and for a reasonable period afterwards for payment and dispute records, then deleted
•
Contact form messages: kept only as long as needed to handle your enquiry
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to how we use it. You can delete your entire account and all associated data instantly using the "Delete my account and data" button in Settings. This is immediate and permanent, there is no waiting period.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your data, you have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Security
All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Passwords are stored as salted cryptographic hashes, never in plain text. We follow data minimisation, we only collect what is needed to provide the service.
Not regulated advice
Me Steady is not a regulated debt advice or legal service. For regulated debt advice, contact StepChange, Citizens Advice, or National Debtline, all free and independent.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service changes. If we make a significant change, we will show a notice in the app.
